VOTING DAY – Alfold Neighbourhood Plan

Alfold’s Neighbourhood Plan – REFERENDUM DAY

PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT

Dear all,

As I hope you are already aware, today is voting day on Alfold’s Neighbourhood Plan. This is a crucial milestone in taking back a level of control in local development planning, so your support is vital. The Referendum is scheduled to be held at the Village Hall from 7am – 10pm.  Please do remember your photo ID to vote, we do not want residents to make unnecessary journeys in cold weather.

Votes are binary, either ‘yes’ you vote for Alfold to adopt the Neighbourhood Plan, or ‘no’ you don’t want Alfold to adopt the Neighbourhood Plan.

This policy document has been a long time in the making and has involved much hard work by the Parish Council, listening and responding to the views of local residents.  It sets out the framework for how Alfold views properly sustainable development.  There are policies also to protect and enhance the local environment and village character, build community and plan for infrastructure improvements. The Neighbourhood Plan legally has to be taken into account by any developers viewing Alfold as a location for new houses.

Alfold’s Neighbourhood Plan does not ‘allocate’ any sites for housing development, and explains the strain already being put on our limited infrastructure. Alfold has more than met its housing target set out in Waverley’s Local Plan, Part 1 and so the Neighbourhood Plan sets clear limitations on any housing development.   It is important to state that the Neighbourhood Plan does not open the door for further development, but gives us a bigger say in what happens when any applications come in.

We are aware that residents may see proposals being publicised by commercial developers. The Parish Council wants to make it very clear that it has no connection with such proposals, nor does the Neighbourhood Plan explicitly support any such proposals.

The Plan documents, which comprise of the actual Neighbourhood Plan, Appendices and Alfold’s Design Code can all be found on the links of the following website address: https://alfoldparishcouncil.gov.uk/alfold-parish-council/alfold-parish-council-neighbourhood-plan/, or you can contact your local parish councillor who has hard copies of the documents for you to view.

If anyone has any questions, please do contact me at clerk@alfoldparishcouncil.gov.uk and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Alfold Parish Councillors are very much hoping that the Plan is adopted (Made) and believe that its benefits to the village will be far reaching and positive for all residents.

Thanks,

Julie.
